Real people, with a passion for Heritage

Bramley & Stone are a team of skilled craftsmen and Heritage Building Experts specialising in the restoration and repair of Period Properties throughout Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset and Surrey. Old buildings follow different rules with solid walls, lime mortars, and natural ventilation. They manage moisture through movement and evaporation, a principle most modern contractors overlook. That misunderstanding is the biggest cause of ongoing damp and decay in period properties

Most general builders lack the specialist knowledge. Most survey firms diagnose and make recommendations, but never carry out the work. Bramley & Stone does both. Our team has assessed and repaired all types of historic buildings from small stone cottages to stately homes.

What is a Period Property?

A Period or Heritage Property is a building that was constructed in a past architectural era and still retains features from that time. In the UK, this typically includes homes built before 1919, such as Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian properties. There buildings are often valued for their character and craftsmanship, with features like solid walls, timber frames, lime plaster, and traditional brick or stonework. Unlike modern homes, period properties were built using breathable materials such as lime mortar, meaning they need to be repaired and maintained using traditional building methods to ensure their long-term performance.
